Thanks Allan! Julie similarly entranced me, and I think we got the LP sooner than you did, amazingly, as my uncle, the man in our house, was a jazz apasionado - Ellington, Basie - and tended to scoff at mostly all else. But the South Pacific LP WAS played over and over when he was out playing piano with his band. All that aside - the polyphony of your style in this piece leaves me quietly delighted. And took me back to seeing the Sound of Music at the Gaumont Cinema, Barker's Pool, Sheffield, aged 10. Knew nothing about it and came out smitten.
I love this Allan. The sound of Music is still a firm favourite of mine and I’m not ashamed to get sentimentally mushy over some of the songs including My Favourite Things, Climb every mountain and Edelweiss!!!
I loved this piece, Allan. Especially the lovely way you wove the thread of show tunes and jazz and different stages of life around the words to "My Favorite Things."
You also had me at the very beginning because "The Sound of Music" had a huge influence on my life. I was 12 years old when I saw it and for years I so wanted to be like Maria/Julie Andrews, with her beautiful voice and her courage. I also wanted to live in Austria. It took me 50 years (!), but I eventually made it and ended up marrying an Austrian to boot.

Thanks Julie - great to hear about your love of the Sound of Music and the other Julie!

Thanks Clarice. Lovely to hear your memories and pleased to know you climbed every mountain and made it to Austria eventually!
Great writing!
Many thanks Rachel - much appreciated!
